The 2026–2027 season brings a fresh start for Turkish striker Enes Ünal, who has returned to Getafe after his spell at Bournemouth. The 29-year-old resumes his La Liga career wearing number 19, with his previous connection to the club and its supporters giving the return particular significance.

Getafe announced an agreement with Bournemouth to bring Ünal back on a three-season contract running until June 2029.
The Turkish striker previously played for the club from summer 2020 to January 2024, making 109 competitive appearances and scoring 36 goals across all competitions, according to Getafe’s figures. He then moved to Bournemouth on loan, with the English club subsequently making the transfer permanent, before his return to the Coliseum this summer.
That earlier spell gives him familiarity with the club and the league. The quality of his performances and how effectively he uses his playing time will determine the assessment of his new chapter.

These figures invite closer examination of the quality of his chances, the service he receives inside the penalty area and his ability to turn appearances into sustained goalscoring output.
Ünal scored twice across the two legs of Getafe’s Conference League play-off against Partizan. Added to his league goal, that brought his total to three goals in nine competitive Getafe appearances at the update date.
Ünal was named Getafe’s August player of the month through the “Five Star Player” award. The club highlighted his three goals in his first four matches after returning, a start that quickly earned him supporters’ recognition.

Tactical assessment: As a centre-forward, Ünal can be assessed through his ability to receive the ball under pressure, move to meet crosses, make use of second balls and combine with his fellow attackers.
Getafe’s squad also includes Martín Satriano and Borja Mayoral, making the allocation of attacking roles worth following. Ünal’s responsibilities vary with the line-up and opposition, particularly as Getafe alternate between league and European fixtures.
Getafe have six matches scheduled in October across La Liga, the Conference League and the Copa del Rey. Notable fixtures include the visit to Barcelona on 10 October, Universitatea Craiova in Romania on 15 October and Lugano at home on 22 October.
The schedule offers a chance to follow Ünal’s consistency, the quality of his movement against different defences and how his appearances are managed across competitions.
Do you think Enes Ünal’s return to Getafe will help him rediscover his prolific La Liga goalscoring form?
