Competitive Air Sports in Türkiye 2026: Cross-Country, Accuracy and Paramotor Slalom
A pilot may win one competition by increasing points and another by reducing a total. Air sports test different skills; a wing above a mountain does not automatically indicate a race. This guide explains Turkish competitions and their results, focusing on cross-country paragliding, landing accuracy and paramotor slalom, using material reviewed on 28 October 2026.

Identify the discipline before interpreting a result
Follow the Turkish Air Sports Federation, THSF, and the relevant discipline. Its branches also include gliding, hang gliding, parachuting, aeromodelling, ballooning and others. A branch listing does not establish a championship in every city or month. Identify the competition, discipline and class, then read its dated announcement and regulations.
A cross-country task differs from a precision landing test. Paramotoring uses an engine, while a demonstration is not automatically a slalom competition. A tourist tandem flight with a pilot is a separate product from an eligible sporting entry, even when both use the same mountain location.
| Competition | What to follow | Result key |
|---|---|---|
| Cross-country / Mesafe / XC | A task, route and recorded flight | Task points and overall classification |
| Landing accuracy / Hedef | A measured target landing | Landing error; lower is better |
| Paramotor slalom | Tasks around specified gates and pylons | Valid time, penalties and the announced ranking system |
Cross-country: completing the task matters
The task briefing specifies route details, turnpoints and starting and closing times. The currently indexed Turkish regulation identifies GPS IGC track logs as flight evidence. An arrival photograph or distance shown in a recreational app does not by itself establish correct completion.
Tasks use an approved scoring programme and formula, with announced parameters that can differ between competitions. Read points, distance and time together rather than deciding the winner by who lands first or remains airborne longest. A director can stop or postpone a task; a circulating list produced before that decision is not automatically the final classification.
For a useful comparison, retain the task number, date and wing class. When the route changes, raw times from different days are not the same sporting test. Check that a displayed map belongs to the scored flight rather than a practice or free flight nearby.
Accuracy: zero can be the best score
Accuracy measures the first landing contact relative to the target centre. A valid dead-centre landing receives zero: the aim is to reduce error over the counted rounds. A larger number is therefore not inherently better. Judges assess the landing and its conditions, rather than a distant photograph of the wing approaching a marker.
The Turkish 2026 regulation discards one worst individual result for each five completed task flights. Do not apply that discard to club scores: the regulation expressly distinguishes them. An educational example is individual scores of 2, 4, 1, 3 and 20 becoming 10 after discarding 20, assuming valid scores in the same unit and no other penalties.
Competition landing-error totals also differ from the seasonal THPS ranking. The regulation bases THPS on the best two WPRS results from three specified CAT-2 competitions, with further provisions if there are more. Check the column heading: lower landing error and higher ranking points are compatible ideas.
Paramotor slalom: time, penalties and task places
The regulation approved on 2 October 2026 covers tasks that may use figure-of-eight, triangle or Y patterns. Judges verify direction, sequence and gates as well as timing. A wrong passage or missed gate can invalidate a task; speed alone does not establish a correct run.
Read the local penalty provisions instead of assuming every pylon contact adds a fixed number of seconds. Then distinguish corrected time from aggregated placing points. The regulation gives a model with one point for first and two for second, making the lowest task total best. A final may also be organised according to the programme and available conditions.
| Displayed item | Meaning | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Raw time | A measurement before penalties, if shown separately | Route and gate validity |
| Penalised time | Time after an announced penalty | Reason and applicable calculation |
| Task placing points | A finishing place converted under the scoring system | Whether lower totals win and whether a final follows |
Which Turkish documents are current in 2026?
The reviewed index lists approval dates of 17 April 2026 for accuracy, 4 May 2026 for national-team selection criteria, and 2 October 2026 for paramotor slalom. Cross-country remains indexed with approval on 6 May 2024, although its download is stored in a 2026 folder. A folder date does not create a new edition.
Distinguish the Turkish championship, seasonal rankings and national-team roster. Cross-country selection considers the championship and TPS, with championship participation required to claim selection eligibility. Technical and administrative decisions establish published rosters: winning one task does not automatically appoint someone or promise funded international travel.
Read announcements and results in order
Start with a dated announcement identifying venue, days, discipline and classes. Find local regulations, task or round information, accepted entries and official results. Registered, started and completed are different statuses; provisional results can change before complaints are resolved and the result becomes official.
A generic results page without clear event identification does not establish that its first name is the 2026 champion. Look for competition name, date, class and counted tasks, keeping the issue time with your saved result. A screenshot should retain its heading and units so a seasonal total is not mistaken for a single round.
| Before relying on a result | Check | Mistake avoided |
|---|---|---|
| Event identity | Name, date, discipline and class | Mixing seasons or competitions |
| Calculation | Units, counted tasks and penalties | Combining time with error scores |
| Document status | Provisional or official, with issue date | Announcing a winner before the decision is complete |
Participation, spectating and costs
Prospective competitors should check their discipline before paying. The accuracy regulation specifies at least recognised P4 pilot level, while slalom specifies PM3; current sporting licences, insurance, age and foreign-entry conditions also matter. These are not spectator tickets, and a card does not replace accepted registration for the particular competition.
Spectators should request the actual public area, vehicle access, briefing arrangements and weather updates. Leave launch, landing and gate areas to authorised people. In cross-country, the finish may not be visible from launch, so choose a viewing location from the published plan rather than promotional imagery.
No nationwide admission or entry tariff is assumed here. Ask about registration, transfers, retrieval after landing and accommodation, their inclusions and programme changes. Flight training and assessments of people and equipment belong with qualified providers and authorities; understanding results does not supply take-off or landing instruction.
Frequently asked questions
Is a tourist tandem flight a competition entry?
Sporting participation has separate discipline, eligibility and acceptance requirements.
Why is zero good in accuracy?
It represents a valid dead-centre landing without measured error.
Can I add cross-country flight times to choose the champion?
Use official points and the event’s formula rather than adding unrelated times.
Do individual and club scores discard the same worst results?
The Turkish 2026 accuracy regulation treats them differently; check the classification heading.
Does an announced date guarantee every task will happen?
Operations can change or stop; follow organiser updates and the tasks actually validated.
