Build your visit around accessible places
Central Anatolia combines museums, rock-cut towns and archaeological sites, but some galleries or buildings are undergoing restoration. Choose one main indoor attraction and a nearby alternative for each day. A partial closure does not mean the entire site is closed, and older photographs cannot establish which areas are accessible now.

Opening hours that shape the day
Mevlâna Museum: admission is free. Published hours are 09:00–17:00, with the entrance desk closing at 16:30. It opens daily; the desk opens at 10:00 on Mondays. Allow roughly one to one and a half hours and continue to nearby mosques and bazaars afterwards.
Kırşehir Museum: 08:00–17:00, last entry 16:45, closed Mondays. Kaman Kalehöyük’s official pages publish different hours. The seasonal 1 October–1 April timetable lists 08:00–17:00/16:30, while another page lists 08:00–19:00/18:45. Plan a morning visit and confirm with the museum on +90 386 717 6075.

Access restrictions that affect an itinerary
| Site | Access note | Practical decision |
|---|---|---|
| Museum of Anatolian Civilisations, Ankara | Ankara and Classical galleries closed; estimated completion 2 March 2027 | Confirm available galleries and combine the visit with the castle and Ulus |
| Niğde Museum | Closed | Focus on exterior city landmarks and the Bor area; check any chosen indoor attraction separately |
| Mucur Underground City | Closed until restoration is complete | Choose Kırşehir or Kaman after confirming their hours |
| Çatalhöyük | The announced closure concerns the South Shelter | Ask about the available route and interpretation centre; do not assume the whole site is closed |
| Ihlara and Zelve | Specific churches are closed for restoration | Use authorised paths and accessible churches; read the site guides before setting out |
Estimated completion dates help with planning but do not establish that a site has reopened. Reconfirm access if a particular gallery is the reason for your journey.

Alternatives near each base
| Base | Main programme | Flexible alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Ankara | Museum of Anatolian Civilisations, according to gallery access | Ankara Castle and Ulus lanes, or family museums after confirming admission |
| Konya | Mevlâna Museum, Selimiye Mosque and the bazaars | A separate day in Sille; evening sema with a confirmed booking |
| Kırşehir | The city museum, Cacabey Madrasa and Ahi Evran | Kaman and the Japanese garden, with return transport arranged |
| Cappadocia and Aksaray | One archaeological site chosen to suit your interests | Villages, easy valley walks or Güzelyurt, according to weather and time |
| Niğde | Historic buildings and a visit to Bor | Aladağlar scenery from suitable roads; mountain outings need separate planning |
These are separate options for different overnight bases; do not try to fit all five cities into one day. Visit the museum with the earliest closing time first, leaving space for meals and walking.
Ihlara Valley and the Melendiz River; check access points for both the outdoor route and its rock-cut churches.

Budget and transport
Check your ticket category and whether an additional church or service requires a separate ticket. Do not assume one pass covers every municipal, private and ministry-run museum. Free entry to Mevlâna Museum does not include a sema ticket at the separate Mevlâna Cultural Centre.
Nearby historic-centre sights can often be combined on foot. Kaman, Çatalhöyük and the valleys require outward and return transport, with margins for opening hours and weather. If travelling by train, include the transfer from the station to your first attraction.
6.
Check before setting out
- Check the closing day and last admission, not just when the building closes.
- Ask which galleries or areas remain accessible during a partial closure.
- Arrange collection from rural sites before reaching them.
- Choose a nearby alternative suited to the weather, walking ability and family needs.
- Keep the Turkish names of attractions handy when asking about access or locating the entrance.
