On 17 October 2026, Istanbul University opened the internal medicine hospital at its Çapa campus and the hospital at its Esenyurt campus, alongside groundbreaking for further facilities. For patients, the practical significance is additional outpatient, intensive-care and surgical capacity. Using a service still requires confirming the specialty, campus and registration route, especially while some units enter service gradually.

Çapa internal medicine: which services were announced?
The Presidency's opening-day statement describes a 44,000-square-metre hospital with 186 beds, including 39 intensive-care beds. Its facilities include 56 outpatient clinics, three angiography units and day-treatment capacity for 41 people.
The statement names cardiology, infectious diseases and respiratory medicine among the new building's services, with 26 coronary intensive-care beds and 13 internal medicine intensive-care beds. Those figures break down the 39 intensive-care beds; they are not additional beds to add to that total. Day treatment is a different pathway from overnight admission, and the clinical team and hospital determine the appropriate service and appointment for each patient.
Outpatient services have begun, while other units are being commissioned in stages. A list of equipment therefore does not guarantee every procedure on every day or an available appointment in every specialty. If you already attend the university, ask specifically whether your clinic or doctor has moved, and where your examination or test will take place.
What does Esenyurt add?
The Presidency describes Esenyurt hospital as having 200 patient beds and 50 intensive-care beds, including neonatal intensive care, as well as 12 operating theatres supporting robotic surgery and complex operations. These are descriptions of facilities and announced services. A patient cannot directly reserve an operating theatre on that basis; the pathway begins with assessment by the relevant department.
Istanbul University's news centre also highlights clinical training and educational infrastructure alongside patient care. Its report quotes the Health Minister describing a 300-bed project at Esenyurt, whereas the Presidency gives the breakdown shown below. These descriptions should not be added together or treated as confirmed day-to-day operational capacity. Ask the hospital about actual bed availability when needed.
Where should you start an appointment enquiry?
The Istanbul Faculty of Medicine hospital portal publishes the appointment number 0212 414 24 24 and an “İnternetten Randevu” option for online appointments, alongside after-hours examinations and online payment. Its contact page also lists the switchboard +90 212 414 20 00 and Çapa in Fatih. These are published university hospital channels, not confirmation that every new Esenyurt unit uses the same booking route.
Start with the official portal or call the appointment number, asking which campus, department and registration steps apply. An appointment link does not guarantee a vacant appointment in the required specialty or the inclusion of every new unit. If the portal does not open, use the published telephone channel to enquire rather than travelling solely on the strength of the opening news.
Before ending the call or finalising a booking, obtain the full facility name, building address, specialty, appointment date and time, and a confirmation number if issued. A booking saying only “Istanbul University” or “Çapa” is insufficient if your treatment is at another campus. Confirm the examination location and the location of any tests or procedure separately.
Foreign residents and visitors: what should you ask?
The opening announcement contains no foreign-patient price list, blanket acceptance of all insurance policies or promise of free treatment. Before paying or arranging travel, ask patient registration which document it accepts in your circumstances: a passport, foreigner identity document or another document as applicable. Ask whether a referral is required and how your name and details should match your identification.
If insured, ask both the hospital and insurer about cover for the facility, department and specific procedure, prior authorisation, and direct billing versus reimbursement. Holding an insurance card or residence policy does not itself establish cover for a particular service. If paying yourself, request a written estimate stating what is included and whether tests, imaging, physician fees and admission are charged separately.
If you need language assistance, ask whether an interpreter or staff member speaking a suitable language is available on your appointment day and whether there is a charge. These are points to check before visiting; the opening announcement does not guarantee Arabic interpreting or a specific interpreting fee.
Official prices to help understand costs
The Health Ministry tariff published with the 28 July 2026 amendment provides procedure prices in annex EK-2. Examples relevant to outpatient, cardiac and respiratory services include:
What do these prices mean? They are individual prices in the general tariff, not a price list issued specifically by the two new facilities or a final quote for every foreign patient. The tariff rules include state university hospitals. Where individual service billing applies, procedures are billed by code. Listing a procedure here does not establish its immediate availability at every campus or a clinical need for it.
Patients covered by SGK: An insurance co-payment, “Katılım payı”, differs from the full service price. Eligibility, covered procedures and authorisations affect what the patient pays. The TRY 400 consultation price is therefore not presented as a universal co-payment for insured patients, and an additional co-payment should not automatically be added to it.
Health tourism and tourist healthcare: Under section 12 of the tariff rules, EK-2 prices form a base price for this category, and the university rectorate may determine a multiplier under the official mechanism. An Istanbul University multiplier or final Çapa/Esenyurt quote has not been established here. No assumed multiplier is applied, and foreign residents should not automatically be classified as health tourists.
Before accepting a quote: Ask for your billing category, each procedure code and quantity, any multiplier or after-hours examination fee, and what the price includes in tests, medicines, materials or admission. International-patient rules allow patients to request treatment-cost details and require interpreting, consultancy and support services to be distinguished from healthcare in the invoice. Table prices are individual items; an item included in an approved package should not be added again.
A practical plan from booking to results
This is an organisational checklist, not a universal mandatory document list issued by the two facilities. Obtain medical preparation instructions for tests or imaging from the treating department; this article does not establish a need to fast or stop medication.
People with an appropriate account can use the official e-Nabız service to follow their health record and information submitted by institutions. Its page provides e-Devlet login and language options including Arabic. The free e-Nabız service does not make treatment free. A result missing from the account does not establish that the test is unfinished; ask the department about its own results portal and report upload timing.
Which facilities are still future projects?
The Çapa orthopaedics, traumatology and Surgery 2 facility was at the groundbreaking stage. Plans cover 20,273 square metres over seven floors, with 113 beds including seven intensive-care beds, six operating theatres, eight clinics, a physiotherapy area for ten people and three X-ray units. These are planned facilities on completion; groundbreaking does not establish a booking or opening date.
The intention to advertise recruitment of 38,000 non-physician health workers before the end of 2026 is also a forthcoming announcement, with the Health Ministry responsible for the details and timetable. The speech alone does not open applications or establish a job at these two hospitals for any applicant.
Questions before making a decision
Does the opening mean every Çapa service is moving to Esenyurt?
The announcement does not establish a move of all services. Confirm your particular department and appointment location, especially if you are an existing patient.
Are all clinics and operating theatres immediately available?
Outpatient services at the internal medicine hospital have started, with other units commissioned gradually. Announced equipment and beds are not a list of vacant appointments.
Can a foreign patient calculate treatment charges from this news?
The tariff table above gives official item prices but does not settle a foreign patient's final bill. The treating institution must confirm the billing category, cover and any multiplier for the service and patient concerned.
What still needs direct confirmation?
Each clinic's hours, availability of the doctor and procedure, the exact Esenyurt visit address, insurance acceptance and charges, and the active booking route for each unit. Obtain confirmation suited to your circumstances before travelling.
