🛡️ A bank may ask for additional verification or documents about a transaction, while a fraudster may imitate its messages and calls. Verify requests through established bank channels and protect passwords and authentication codes.

1️⃣ Verification does not mean wrongdoing

A bank may review identity, the purpose of a transfer or the source of funds under its legal obligations and risk policy. A large payment is not automatically unlawful, and no single amount guarantees that every bank will process a transfer without questions.

For a document request, check the exact requirement, deadline and official submission route. Ask for clarification and keep its reference. Do not invent a transaction description or use another account to bypass review.

2️⃣ Reasons to stop

RequestWhy it is concerningAppropriate action
Move money to a safe accountMay divert funds to a fraudsterEnd the call and contact the bank
Read a verification code to an employeeMay authorise access or paymentDo not disclose it
Install remote-control softwareMay give control of your deviceRefuse and verify independently
Claim a fee refund through an unexpected linkMay collect card or login informationOpen the official app instead

3️⃣ Protect everyday transactions

🔐 Use the official app and update it from a trusted store. Enable suitable notifications and review the payee and amount before authentication. Never disclose a password or OTP, even when the caller’s number or branding looks familiar.

Verify changed landlord or supplier details using a previously established number. A familiar contact’s account may have been compromised; a separate confirmation before payment helps prevent that deception.

4️⃣ Respond to what actually happened

IncidentFirst actionEvidence to record
A suspicious call onlyEnd it and verify with the bankCaller number and request
Password entered on a suspicious siteContact the bank and change it safelyAddress and time
Code disclosed or accidental authorisationRequest protection and immediate transaction reviewCode type and visible transactions
Unfamiliar debit or transferNotify the bank and use the correct dispute routeAmount, reference and receipts

5️⃣ When fraud is suspected

☎️ Call the trusted number in the banking app or on your card. Explain precisely what you disclosed or authorised. Request the appropriate account-channel or card protection, and investigation of transactions that may still be actionable.

Keep messages, links, receipts and call times. If someone else controls your device, do not continue entering financial credentials before securing it. Prompt reporting matters but does not guarantee recovery.

Making an online payment

6️⃣ Keep a clear follow-up file

🧾 Retain the complaint number, latest bank response, transaction date, amount and reference, and relevant evidence. Use official reporting channels and follow the bank’s and competent authorities’ instructions where a formal report is needed.

Do not pay someone promising recovery in exchange for an investigation fee or release tax. A fraud attempt may be followed by another disguised as help. Genuine follow-up starts with the bank or authority, not a caller demanding another transfer.
