Badminton in Türkiye 2026–2027: Leagues, Age Groups, Entries and the Scoring Change
Badminton has its own Turkish individual, doubles and mixed club-team pathways, distinct from tennis and table tennis. This guide explains competition choices, age eligibility, entry preparation and results, including the international scoring change scheduled for January 2027. Selected sources were checked on 28 October 2026; an annual regulation alone does not establish that entries are open today.

Understand the match before choosing an event
Singles is one player against one; doubles is one pair against another. Men’s, women’s and mixed doubles events are distinct, while a club tie combines separate matches into a team result. One player’s win does not necessarily decide the club tie, and singles and doubles rankings are separate.
The shuttle is played over a net into the opponent’s court under the rules. Indoor competition reduces wind interference, and singles and doubles use different boundaries and service arrangements. Ask a coach to explain court markings, service and player sequence before a first match.
Recreational play does not itself require competitive licensing, but official competition has licensing, category and acceptance conditions. Decide whether you want lessons, junior competition, club play or international spectating before opening an entry form for another route.
A club league is not an open singles tournament
The 2026 Süper Lig regulation specifies 12 teams, a double round-robin over eight stages and relegation of the bottom three. Each tie has seven rubbers: two men’s singles, two women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Games within each rubber are a separate layer.
The regulation prohibits foreign players in the 2026 league. Permission to train or join a club does not establish league eligibility, and the restriction should not be extended to every individual event without its rules. An individual application does not create a Süper Lig roster place.
Match the document title with the division and season before calculating promotion or relegation. If a link label and file content differ, request the correct regulation. A season-opening document also does not establish current standings or a champion; consult the approved results as well.
Select the category using the approved birth years
The 2026 national-championship regulation provides these boundaries. Use birth years rather than approximate age or a category nickname. These belong to this year and regulation; check the 2027 document before carrying them forward.
| Category | Birth years in the 2026 regulation | Check before entering |
|---|---|---|
| Under 11 | 2016–2017 | Identity and date of birth |
| Under 13 | 2014–2015 | Event and category |
| Under 15 | 2012–2015 | Eligibility in the notice |
| Under 17 | 2010–2013 | Singles or doubles |
| Under 19 | 2008–2011 | Doubles partner and acceptance |
| Senior | 1991–2011 | Regulation limits, not the label alone |
The regulation permits at most two competition categories per player, using a club or individual licence validated for 2026. Do not interpret this as unrestricted entry to two age-group championships. Confirm the form’s meaning and singles/doubles scheduling with the coach.
For children, establish group level, supervision, transport and collection arrangements. Competition registration does not replace coaching assessment, and a school’s agreement or an accompanying adult does not automatically replace required parental permission.
Prepare registration, lists and withdrawal properly
Use the dated event notice to match hall, city, category, deadline, entry route, lists and draw. Qualification may precede the main draw; submission does not guarantee direct main-draw acceptance. Check the application’s status before travelling.
The federation has its own Spor Bilgi Sistemi portal, with event instructions determining who submits and which documents apply. Prepare validated licensing, identification, the health document required by the current system and sport classification, and parental consent where needed. Distinguish the federation portal from government services used for licensing.
The championship regulation requires a provincial youth and sports directorate-approved delegation list before the technical meeting. Ask the coach to verify the player role, doubles partner, club and category. Similar names or an informal correction at the table can create problems.
If unable to attend, follow the announced withdrawal method and deadline, retaining confirmation. Early-2026 championship attachment deadlines have passed; they illustrate the process rather than current October registration. Check amendments before purchasing non-refundable travel.
Follow the change from 21 to 15 points carefully
The Turkish federation’s current introduction describes the usual best-of-three format to 21 points. Badminton Europe confirms that the approved international best-of-three to 15-point system starts on 4 January 2027. The April 2026 decision date is not its international implementation date.
| Period or context | What the reviewed sources establish | Practical action |
|---|---|---|
| Current 2026 explanation | The Turkish introduction describes 3×21 | Read event rules and announced exceptions |
| Internationally from 4 January 2027 | The announced 3×15 change begins | Use the applicable edition and event instructions |
| Domestic or special-format competition | Specific arrangements may be prescribed | Do not import another country’s implementation into Türkiye |
Best of three does not mean all three games must be played; a match can finish when a side wins two. Separate game points from games won and club standings. A different score requires checking the date, round and format before calling it an error.
Before competing, ask the coach or umpire to explain scoring, service, ends and intervals. The Turkish Süper Lig regulation anticipates adopting the new system when BWF and BEC implement it. That does not establish that every Turkish event in October 2026 already uses it.
Separate results, rankings and the budget
Identify competition, category, round, player or pair and result status. A qualifying or group win is not a tournament title. Federation rankings and international selection have separate instructions; a domestic title does not automatically provide a national-team or Olympic place.
Budget separately for coaching, membership, racket, shoes, shuttles and replacement supplies, court access and travel. Ask whether lessons include equipment, court booking and a practice partner, plus arrangements for cancelled sessions. No verified nationwide coaching or spectator tariff is established here.
Specific 2026 examples distinguish a TRY 3,000 national-championship protest fee from a TRY 3,500 Süper Lig protest fee, subject to formal submission requirements. These are not entry or ticket prices. Travel-allowance provisions do not guarantee funding for every trainee: establish your entitlement and conditions before relying on reimbursement.
Build a useful participation or viewing plan
Choose a hall you can reach regularly and try an appropriate group before purchasing advanced equipment. Ask about coaching experience, players per court, actual playing time and supplied equipment. Doubles partners also need compatible availability, level and communication, not just two names on a form.
Spectators should confirm hall, session, admission, seating and access. A calendar listing does not establish ticket sales or free streaming. Match a broadcast link to the actual event and distinguish a club competition from a national-team tie or an international tournament hosted in Türkiye.
Keep a simple plan covering aim, eligible category, club or coach, entry and deadline, budget and later performance review. Recheck updates for each tournament, especially the transition to 2027. Para and Deaf badminton have their own appropriate licensing, classification and event instructions.
Frequently asked questions
Is badminton the same as tennis or table tennis?
It is a separate racket-and-shuttle sport with its own court, net, singles, doubles and rules.
Can a foreign player enter the 2026 Süper Lig?
Its regulation prohibits foreign players in that year’s league. Do not extend that automatically to training or every other event.
Can I use the 2026 birth-year table for 2027?
Check the new year’s regulation and the particular event before entering.
Did international 15-point scoring begin in April 2026?
It was approved then; its announced international start is 4 January 2027.
Is the protest amount an entry charge?
No. The specified protest fees are separate from participation, coaching and spectator charges.
