Withdrawing cash can be straightforward, but the choice of ATM and card can make a substantial difference to the cost. This 2025 guide explains the charges and limits to check.

Editorial clarification — 8 October 2026: There is no single withdrawal fee or daily limit for all cards in Türkiye. Check the card issuer’s tariff, the ATM’s displayed charge and any currency-conversion offer. See TCMB’s consumer-fee guidance and Visa’s conversion guidance.

1. Charges you may encounter

  • A withdrawal fee charged by your card issuer.
  • A fee charged by the ATM operator, particularly when it is outside your bank’s own or agreed partner network.
  • Currency-conversion costs if the card’s billing currency differs from the withdrawal currency.
A credit-card withdrawal may also be treated as a cash advance, with separate charges and interest.

2. Ways to reduce the cost

  • Use your bank’s own ATMs, or a partner network that your card terms identify as free, where possible.
  • If a fixed charge applies to each withdrawal, one appropriately sized withdrawal may cost less than many small ones. Balance this against daily limits and the risk of carrying too much cash.
  • Read the ATM’s fee screen before confirming. Your issuer may charge separately, even if the ATM displays no operator fee.
For a TRY withdrawal with a foreign-currency card, review any offer to convert it into your home currency. Declining DCC usually leaves conversion to your issuer; it does not eliminate the other withdrawal charges.

3. Daily limits and why they matter

Your issuer sets card withdrawal limits, and the ATM operator may impose an additional per-transaction or daily limit. Some issuers let you request a different limit through the app, customer services or a branch.

Limits help reduce potential losses if a card is lost or misused. Check the applicable limit before planning a large cash payment, rather than assuming that another bank’s published limit applies to your card.

4. Common mistakes

  • Making repeated small withdrawals without checking per-transaction charges.
  • Accepting an additional-fee or conversion screen without reading it.
  • Using an ATM that appears tampered with, is poorly located, or does not give you enough privacy to enter your PIN safely.
Use a well-lit, established location, shield your PIN and contact the issuer promptly if an ATM retains your card or a withdrawal goes wrong.

Practical takeaway

Choose the right ATM network, plan the amount you need and read the fee screen. These simple checks can reduce avoidable charges over the course of a month.
