The Ortacalar twin bridges near Arhavi.
Arhavi and Hopa stand on Artvin's coast, with wet valleys, forests and villages rising behind them. The area brings the sea together with stone-built heritage, waterfalls and local culture. Mençuna Waterfall and the Ortacalar bridges are among the best-known sights in Arhavi's countryside.
The sea is central to Arhavi and Hopa alongside urban life, services and commercial movement. Both connect with the eastern Black Sea coastal corridor, while green slopes behind them hold villages and tea gardens.
This close meeting of coast and mountains shows how maritime and agricultural activity overlap within a relatively narrow area.
The two arched stone bridges are prominent examples of rural Arhavi's architectural heritage. Their construction responded to watercourses and the need to connect banks and local routes.
Their arches show how stone structures carry a crossing over water. The wooded riverside setting brings their practical role together with historic and architectural value.
Mençuna Waterfall near Arhavi.
Mençuna lies in the wooded environment of the Kamilet Valley. Falling water, green slopes, streams and bridges form a connected valley scene.
The surroundings are an essential part of the attraction: waterfall, rocks, water and trees create the view together. Rainfall and the season affect both the flow and conditions on the paths.
Tea growing and rural work shape nearby villages. Local architecture uses stone and timber adapted to steep ground.
Laz heritage forms part of the cultural variety of this eastern Black Sea area, alongside local music, language and customs. Villages and coastal towns give a wider picture than a visit focused solely on the waterfall.
Check routes and conditions before setting out, especially after rain, in fog and on higher ground. Facilities and access may vary seasonally or during maintenance.
Respect homes and village properties, use open paths and take care on wet surfaces. Help preserve historic structures, woodland and river environments.
