In October 2025, the Antalya–Alanya motorway project in southern Türkiye secured €1.7 billion in financing from 14 banks and financial institutions under a public–private partnership (PPP).
1) The project
- Limak Holding is developing the motorway under the PPP model.
- The financing is a 14-year loan totalling €1.7 billion.
- The planned route comprises:
- Approximately 84 km of motorway.
- A further 38 km of connecting roads, with the main corridor following the foothills of the Taurus Mountains.
- The project is intended to cut the journey from around two and a half hours to 36 minutes. This is the announced projection for the motorway corridor once operational, rather than a current or guaranteed city-centre-to-city-centre journey time.
2) Who is providing the finance?
- According to the project company, approximately 87% of the loan comes from international financial institutions. The wider financing consortium includes:
- The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).
- The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
- The Silk Road Fund.
- Commercial banks including Akbank, Deutsche Bank, Garanti BBVA and Ziraat Bank.
- Financing commitments reached approximately 2.1 times the amount sought, which the developer presented as an indication of lender confidence in the project.
3) Expected effects on tourism and the economy
- The motorway is expected to make travel easier between two major tourism centres on Türkiye’s Mediterranean coast.
- It is intended to relieve congestion on the existing coastal road and shorten journeys for freight and logistics services.
- The project could support employment during construction and, after opening, in:
- Construction and maintenance.
- Roadside services, including rest areas, fuel stations and restaurants.
4) What does this mean for residents and visitors?
- Once the motorway opens, it should offer more convenient options for:
- Staying in Antalya and making a day trip to Alanya.
- Travelling in the opposite direction, broadening the choice of itineraries.
- Travellers should also allow for motorway tolls under the PPP operating model and check the published tariff when planning a journey.
