📍 Geographical setting
Burdur lies in south-western Türkiye, near Isparta and north of Antalya. Mountains, lakes and rural scenery give this part of the Lakes Region a quiet appeal.

🏛️ Introduction
The relatively compact city combines historic houses and a relaxed atmosphere with access to important archaeological sites. Across the province, distinctive lakes attract photographers and visitors interested in natural scenery.

🌊 Burdur's lakes
Lake Salda, near Yeşilova rather than in Burdur city, is known for its pale mineral shore and blue water. Sometimes called the “Turkish Maldives”, it is a protected and ecologically sensitive landscape. Visit designated areas and observe current restrictions on entering the water, walking on white deposits and camping; do not assume these activities are permitted.
Lake Burdur, beside the city, is another major lake in the province and an important habitat for waterbirds, including migratory species.

🏛️ History and landmarks
Sagalassos, near Ağlasun at elevations above 1,500 metres, preserves impressive remains of an ancient city that flourished under Roman rule. Burdur Archaeology Museum displays finds from the region, including significant ancient sculpture.

🌿 Nature and local life
The surrounding mountains and woodland offer opportunities for walking and photography. Markets sell regional products such as honey, cheese and locally made textiles, while everyday hospitality is part of the visitor experience.

💡 Tips for exploring
- April to September provides a broad outdoor season; higher sites can be cool even when the city is warm.
- Photograph Salda from permitted viewpoints, taking care around its protected shoreline.
- Explore Sagalassos for a sense of the scale and artistry of Roman-era urban life.
- Try local specialities such as Burdur şiş and ceviz ezmesi, a walnut-and-semolina sweet.
