It is easy for supporters to nominate their own club. The debate becomes more interesting when they explain why it can sustain a challenge until the season's end. Early league games provide clues; a genuine contender faces a sterner test when a difficult away fixture coincides with a key absence and European commitments.
This topic is a space to compare chances with evidence. What do the results show so far, what needs closer observation, and when should we raise or revise our expectations?
Updated on 2 October 2026. The figures below are a snapshot of the official table after six matches per club. The analysis is an editorial assessment open to discussion.

The TFF standings and results page showed the following top eight when the original discussion was prepared:
| Club | Played | Points | Goals for | Goals against |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amedspor | 6 | 13 | 15 | 7 |
| Galatasaray | 6 | 13 | 13 | 10 |
| Beşiktaş | 6 | 12 | 14 | 7 |
| Kocaelispor | 6 | 12 | 7 | 4 |
| Alanyaspor | 6 | 11 | 8 | 6 |
| Fenerbahçe | 6 | 10 | 16 | 6 |
| Trabzonspor | 6 | 10 | 13 | 5 |
| Kasımpaşa | 6 | 10 | 7 | 5 |
On points, Amedspor and Galatasaray lead this initial assessment, with Beşiktaş and Kocaelispor one point behind. Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor's positive goal differences deserve attention, but turning performances into successive wins remains the key test. Final ordering of tied teams follows the competition rules once the relevant head-to-head fixtures are complete. October's order does not determine May's standings.
- Beating a deep defence: Can the team create a good chance when space is restricted? Look for varied attacks through dribbling, central and wide play and set pieces, with patience instead of aimless crossing.
- Protecting a lead: Does organisation hold when the team is a goal ahead? Watch the gaps between midfield and defence, cover behind the full-backs and responses to second balls.
- Away points: Facing a motivated opponent at its own ground tests build-up quality and composure. Repeatedly taking points from uncomfortable games against different opponents is a meaningful sign.
- Quality of replacements: Losing a striker or holding midfielder should not erase the team's approach. A good replacement has a clear function, allowing the coach to adapt details while retaining the foundations.
- Managing a crowded week: Observe the distribution of minutes, quality of substitutions and ability to regain rhythm in the domestic game after European travel.
The question I suggest following is whether the team can maintain its attacking output while reducing opponents' chances. Assess how it deals with attacks, especially after losing the ball, then see whether improvement persists against different styles of opposition.
Combining sustained attacking production with organised defensive transitions would make its case more convincing. Repeated reliance on a late individual rescue would require closer examination of whether that pattern can last.
I suggest focusing on close matches. How does the team choose when to take risks? Does it retain protection behind the attack? Can the forwards obtain chances inside the box when opponents deny them space?
A prolific team can be attractive, but a title challenge also requires wins when the details do not all fall into place. Games decided by a moment of concentration or a set piece deserve as much analysis as open contests.

The next step is to look for a repeatable pattern: a clear route to goal, balanced midfield roles and the ability to handle changes to the opponent's pressing plan. One excellent performance is insufficient if the approach disappears after the first tactical adjustment.
Follow the response to a setback. Do decisions on the pitch improve, or does the entire style change in pursuit of a quick solution? Tactical stability is visible in correcting the specific problem while preserving what already works.
For Trabzonspor, I would examine the relationship between midfield balance and effectiveness in front of goal. When the full-backs advance, who covers behind them? When a goal is needed, can an attacking player be added while maintaining sufficient protection?
Comparing home and away performances is also useful, with allowance for opposition quality. A large difference may reveal a problem to solve, while similar standards in both settings give a challenge firmer foundations.
A good start earns a place in the debate. Apply the same tests used for established clubs: consistency, depth, handling absences and the quality of points won against varied opposition. The club's name alone does not explain what happens on the pitch.
The question extends beyond winning a major match: can the side repeat strong performances as opponents study its key strengths? More than one attacking route and continued development would make it harder to dismiss the challenge as a passing surprise.
My preliminary reading begins with Amedspor and Galatasaray on the evidence of their early points, with Beşiktaş and Kocaelispor close and Fenerbahçe and Trabzonspor remaining serious subjects for observation. Ranking the group's football credentials requires examining chance quality, defensive organisation and alternatives; the table alone cannot supply those details.
You can rate your preferred contender out of five for chance creation, defence, replacements, away play and managing fixture congestion. Explain each rating with an example from a match you watched. This organises the discussion; it is not an official formula for predicting the champion.
- Who is your leading contender, and what are your two strongest reasons?
- Which unresolved problem could prevent it from winning the title?
- Which club beyond the usual names deserves consideration?
- What result or tactical improvement would change your view?
Support your view with a specific example. The debate is richer when others can examine the argument, even if they disagree with your choice.
