Mor Yakup Church in Nusaybin, illuminated at night.
Nusaybin, historically known as Nisibis, offers a distinctive cultural stop within Mardin province. Zeynel Abidin Mosque Complex and Mor Yakup Church stand close together and can be appreciated in one focused visit. Confirm access first, then allow time for the architecture and interpretation rather than passing through quickly.
Search for Zeynel Abidin Camii and Mor Yakup Kilisesi in central Nusaybin. Use the current visitor entrance, and arrange parking and the return journey before beginning your walk.
Other buildings in the region share the name Mor Yakup. Add Nusaybin to your map search to identify this church, particularly when planning a trip that also includes Mor Gabriel Monastery or Midyat.
The complex includes a mosque, shrines and elements connected with education and religious visits. Important parts of its history date to the twelfth century, with additions and repairs in later periods.
Observe the courtyard layout, stonework and inscriptions in the areas open to visitors, respecting worshippers and other guests. You can appreciate the architecture from the public spaces if the shrines are closed or you prefer not to enter them.

Mor Yakup Church stands very close to the mosque. Its religious history reaches back to the fourth century. Remains and written sources connect it with a religious and educational complex in ancient Nisibis, whose different parts changed use over time.
Read the interpretation panels to distinguish the standing building from the excavated remains around it. Stay on the visitor route, and enter excavation areas or lower spaces only where access is clearly permitted.
Zeynel Abidin Mosque Complex and Mor Yakup Church were placed together on Türkiye's UNESCO Tentative List in 2014. The proposal highlights their proximity, the city's educational history and the coexistence of religious traditions.
Tentative listing is a nomination stage rather than inscription on the World Heritage List. Visit to understand the relationship between the two sites and their wider context.
Check the church's opening arrangements and which parts can be visited shortly before setting off. Its timetable may differ from the mosque's, and events or conservation work can affect access on the day.
Nusaybin can follow Dara if driving and visiting times fit comfortably, or you can allow a flexible half-day. Carry water in hot weather, follow photography rules, and leave a clear place in the return itinerary for food and a rest.
