Berke Özer continues his Lille career in 2026–2027 after an opening spell that gave the club’s supporters clear reasons to trust him: regular starts, three league clean sheets and decisive saves that helped the team collect points.

Özer was born in the İzmir area on 25 May 2000 and stands 1.91m tall. He played for Altınordu, Fenerbahçe and Westerlo before finding stability at Eyüpspor and making his mark in the Turkish league.
He joined Lille in August 2025 on a four-year contract announced as running until 2029. The 26-year-old goalkeeper wears the number 1 shirt, continuing the Turkish presence at a club previously associated with Burak Yılmaz, Yusuf Yazıcı and Zeki Çelik.

Özer kept clean sheets in three of his five matches, equivalent to 60% of his league appearances. This start reflects his consistent presence in the side, although save quality and defensive organisation also matter alongside the clean-sheet total.
Özer stood out in Lille’s 1–0 away win over Toulouse on 3 September 2026. His nine saves were the most by a Lille goalkeeper in a Ligue 1 match since Mike Maignan made ten against Rennes in January 2018.
His interventions kept Lille in the game under Toulouse’s pressure, before Ayase Ueda scored the winner in the 73rd minute. The club’s match report also highlighted another decisive Özer save near the end.

Lille supporters voted Özer the club’s player of the month for August, with the award announced on 16 September.
When signing Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill in August 2026, Lille also explained that he was joining as the second-choice goalkeeper behind Özer, strengthening the squad for a season of European competition.
Tactical assessment: Regular appearances give Özer the opportunity to develop his understanding with the defence. His decisions when coming for high balls, communication with team-mates and passing accuracy against opponents who press Lille’s build-up will all be worth following.
Lille are scheduled to host Le Havre in the league on 10 October, visit Arsenal in the Champions League on 13 October and then welcome Galatasaray on 21 October.
The Galatasaray match holds particular interest for Turkish supporters. European fixtures also offer a chance to assess Özer’s consistency against different attacking approaches and levels of pressure.
