An Arabic and Turkish store: one experience in two clear languages
Translate meaning, options and policies from product pages through delivery messages
Translate meaning, options and policies from product pages through delivery messages
Visual preparation helps present the same product information in both languages.
Customers may enter an Arabic interface only to encounter Turkish sizes and payment messages in a third language. The information chain has broken during purchase. A bilingual store needs consistent products, options, prices and policies, tested text direction and post-payment language. This guide covers Turkish sellers of physical goods to Arabic- or Turkish-reading customers. Language determines neither nationality, destination nor card currency; configure and measure these separately. Start with a language your team can support, then publish the second after completing its essential pages and testing a full order.
Define both languages and a service scope you can fulfill
State who buys, where orders go and how support works. A resident in Türkiye may use Arabic and need domestic delivery in lira; someone abroad may use Turkish and need export handling. Do not automatically switch Arabic users to foreign destinations or dollars. Make language, country and currency understandable choices where supported and disclose accepted areas before checkout.
Define default language, translation owners and expected support response times. Maintain one authoritative product and policy version so price or delivery changes are not forgotten in another language. Log shared updates to materials, sizing, preparation times, costs and rights. Every marketing article need not be translated at launch, but purchase-decision information must be complete from day one.
Create a consistent team glossary
List recurring menu, product, cart and message terms. Distinguish withdrawal, return, exchange and cancellation, and billing from shipping addresses. Turkish terms familiar to warehouse staff may not explain themselves to Arabic customers. Choose plain Arabic wording, retaining Turkish where helpful for labels or documents. Use one term for the same action across buttons, messages and help pages.
Review context: a dictionary-correct word may confuse on a small button. Preparation time differs from transit after carrier handover. Give translators location and approximate length guidance and request review by someone with product knowledge and natural command of the language. Share the glossary with product writers, support and developers and update it for recurring questions.
| Turkish term | Meaning of the suggested Arabic wording | What to clarify |
|---|---|---|
| Beden | Size | Product size and measurement method |
| Renk | Color | Option name and image |
| Teslimat adresi | Shipping address | Address where the parcel arrives |
| Fatura adresi | Billing address | Document details, which may differ |
| Cayma hakkı | Right of withdrawal | A defined right under the contract and circumstances |
| Hazırlık süresi | Order preparation time | Before carrier handover |
Test Arabic direction with mixed text
Arabic needs appropriate reading direction, while emails, product codes and phone numbers need preserved sequence. Ask developers to set page and element direction by language and test Arabic with Latin codes, numbers, hyphens and brackets. Larger fonts do not fix reversed phone numbers or confusing currency placement. Check Turkish characters such as İ, ı, ş and ğ in search, addresses and customer messages.
Inspect menus, navigation arrows, selectors, errors and tables on narrow screens. Direction changes can reverse size columns or put close buttons over text. Ensure Turkish addresses remain intact in Arabic interfaces. Test copying order-message data into shipping systems and verify codes remain unchanged for staff. Recorded mixed-text cases make fixes verifiable.
Choose translation tools and themes supporting the full journey
Shopify supports added languages and published translations through compatible tools or translation files; untranslated content falls back to default language. A language switch therefore does not establish complete product, policy or app translation. Current documentation states that recent Horizon-family versions support Arabic direction; verify other themes individually. Apps, gateways and messages may have independent language settings.
For WooCommerce, choose language tools compatible with the theme, variants, checkout and essential plugins. Test in a staging copy before live deployment. Translated options should display the same item rather than creating separate inventory without operational need. Language changes on products should retain the corresponding product; in carts, verify options, quantities and totals persist. Plan translation maintenance after theme or app changes.
Good product photographs reduce reliance on vague descriptions or literal translations.
Translate product, category and option meanings
Start with title, category and short description, then materials, dimensions, contents, instructions and applicable warnings. Do not rely on unread machine translations where wording affects use. Both versions must identify the same material, item and contents count, with stable operational item codes. Review images and text together: images may contain single-language wording or measurements inconsistent with translations.
Translate categories to aid discovery and add search synonyms where needed and supported. Test Turkish-character searches and common Arabic product names. Review image alt text and shared-link titles. New materials or colors need translation tasks before publication to avoid unidentified Turkish options in Arabic carts.
Present sizes and measurements without guesswork
Size names vary by supplier; no universal store rule converts every Turkish size into an Arabic equivalent. Request actual measurements and methodology, checking samples where possible. Explain whether charts measure bodies or garments, units and genuine product tolerances. Use photographs or short explanations for garment measuring points and specify length, width and height order for household products.
The following hypothetical flat-shirt chart is not a general buying recommendation or every brand’s chart; it illustrates needed data. Link each chart to its product version and supplier and recheck after batch or cut changes. Do not directly equate flat chest width with body measurement without explanation. Support should guide customers using measurements while leaving fit decisions to them rather than guaranteeing a size.
| Hypothetical option | Flat chest width, centimeters | Garment length, centimeters | Presentation note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small / S | 48 | 65 | Garment measurement, not body circumference |
| Medium / M | 51 | 68 | Starting point explained in the description |
| Large / L | 54 | 71 | Data for this example only |
Distinguish display and charge currencies
An approximate conversion does not mean the gateway collects that currency. Establish store base and gateway-supported currencies, then test cart, payment, invoice and refund. Current Shopify documentation restricts local-currency charging to providers supporting that flow; other external providers process orders in the store’s default currency. Türkiye was also absent from the Shopify Payments country list read on 11 October 2026; do not apply its capabilities to every Turkish Shopify store.
WooCommerce has one base currency, with multicurrency functionality requiring a suitable plugin and gateway compatibility. Renaming the base currency does not automatically convert figures, so treat changes as configuration and testing projects. Label indicative foreign-currency values as approximate and identify charge currency before payment. Issuers may impose conversion or fees under their contracts; indicative amounts cannot be promised as final bank charges.
| Location | Required information | Test question |
|---|---|---|
| Product page | Clear price and currency name | Is the amount actual or indicative? |
| Cart | Total, shipping and discount | Does charge currency remain clear? |
| Payment gateway | Actual amount and currency | Do they match the earlier summary? |
| Invoice and refund | Transaction-currency and treatment record | Can the accountant reconcile it? |
Preserve Turkish address information
Use sufficient carrier address fields understandable in both languages. Explain province, neighborhood, building, apartment and postcode according to provider format using fictional examples without real personal data. Test dependent city/district lists and corrections without erasing entered text. Do not force Turkish street names into Arabic if that undermines label readability.
Recipient name and contact number matter; verify the service’s actual format with clear errors. Separate billing addresses where details differ and avoid unnecessary data. Test Turkish characters, long addresses and Arabic names, then print a test label or inspect the shipping dashboard. Form acceptance is insufficient if characters become corrupted downstream.
Display language and charge currency require independent tests.
Align policies and pre-order information
Review legal and operational versions together: seller identity, features, totals, extras, delivery, withdrawal and request channels. Provide appropriate provable, savable information before contracting and payment. Arabic information for Turkish domestic customers must convey all applicable details without omitting exceptions or adding conditions absent in Turkish. Obtain appropriate review of sensitive wording rather than relying solely on machine translation.
Do not use language differences to reduce rights or promise broader returns than operations can fulfill. Record the available version and date and keep it accessible. Summarize service in plain language and link full text where needed, clearly presenting the message before the final button. Check summaries, advertising and support against core product and cost information.

Align confirmations, shipping messages and support
Send readable order numbers, options, quantities and totals in the selected language and verify actual email output. Shopify supports translated checkout and notifications for published languages; custom wording may need separate editing and translation. Check variant names, policies, gateways and tracking links because they may originate in different systems. Explain unfamiliar Turkish destinations linked from Arabic messages.
Create standard answers customized to cases: order location, damage reporting, withdrawal requests and address correction. Ask for order numbers instead of full card photographs or unnecessary documents. Specify support languages and hours and give staff one glossary. When transferring to a Turkish-speaking colleague, provide an accurate summary and requested decision so customers need not repeat themselves.

Test both languages and monitor missing translation
Compare the same Arabic and Turkish journey rather than only appearance. Test search, variants, cart, address, payment and confirmation, plus errors and cancellation. Ask someone unfamiliar with settings to perform tasks in their natural language and record explanation needs. Test gateway returns and midjourney language changes while protecting test data.
Maintain corresponding language URLs and review search-engine language-version signals with developers if relying on organic traffic. Do not publish dozens of partly translated pages expecting guaranteed search results. Record each issue’s page, screenshot, language, owner and fix date. Repeat affected cases after price, product or policy changes and include untranslated-text checks when accepting new plugins.
| Test journey | Arabic outcome | Turkish outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Search and variant | Understandable name and matching option | Corresponding product and shared stock |
| Long address | Characters and fields preserved | Label contains the same information |
| Payment | Amount and charge currency clear | Matching total and status |
| Message and cancellation | Correct language, links and information | Consistent rights and procedure |

Questions and bilingual readiness checklist
Can I automatically translate the whole store?
Automation can help draft, followed by human review of descriptions, measurements, policies and decision buttons. Text affecting purchases or payments needs particular care.
Must currency change when Arabic is selected?
No. Language is independent of charge currency; Arabic interfaces can display and collect Turkish lira. Currency changes depend on systems, gateways, accounting and customer needs.
Should Turkish city names appear only in Arabic script?
Arabic explanations can be added while retaining shipping-system-required forms. Test labels and provider readability before approval.
Monitor questions and returns linked to unclear descriptions, sizes or prices. Turn recurring questions into improvements at the relevant journey point and test both languages before adding more content.
