1. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Ankara for families in 2026

Ankara combines large parks, educational museums, science centres and indoor activities. A varied family programme can balance learning and play, provided you allow for the weather and the distances between districts.

2. 🎡 Harikalar Diyarı

Harikalar Diyarı in Sincan is a large family park with green spaces, lakes, walking areas and figures inspired by stories and imaginary characters.

It suits a longer outing with children. Choose mild weather and take drinking water and snacks.

3. 🔬 Feza Gürsey Science Centre

Feza Gürsey Science Centre offers demonstrations and accessible experiments introducing scientific ideas. Interactive activities help children explore subjects such as physics, energy and the human body.

Check current opening days, demonstration times and group-booking arrangements beforehand.

4. 🚂 Rahmi M. Koç Museum

Housed in historic buildings near Ankara Castle, the museum displays old vehicles, railway-related exhibits, industrial models, scientific instruments and communications equipment.

It appeals especially to children interested in machines, transport and inventions, and can be combined with the castle and old quarter.

5. 🦕 Natural History Museum

The MTA Natural History Museum has displays on rocks, minerals, fossils and prehistoric life, including models and skeletons that appeal to children and science enthusiasts.

It is a useful indoor option for school-age children and families, especially during Ankara’s cold winter weather.

6. 🏺 Museum of Anatolian Civilisations

⚠️ Gallery availability: The Museum of Anatolian Civilisations is open, but the Ankara Hall and Classical Hall have been closed for maintenance since 14 September 2026. The official closure register gives 2 March 2027 as their estimated reopening date. The closure concerns these two galleries, rather than the whole museum. Confirm current gallery access before visiting, as the estimated date may change.

This museum presents archaeological finds from the successive civilisations of Anatolia. Older children may get the most from a visit, especially when objects are introduced through stories and clear historical context.

Its location near Ankara Castle makes it possible to combine it with the Rahmi M. Koç Museum.

7. 🌳 Atatürk Forest Farm

The wider area has green spaces, recreational facilities and places to buy local products and desserts. It can offer a break from the central city’s busier streets.

Confirm which facilities are operating and their visiting hours before travelling; arrangements can change.

8. 🏞️ Göksu Park

In Eryaman, Göksu Park has a lake, walking paths, seating areas and nearby restaurants.

Holidays and weekends can be crowded. Morning is often a quieter time for a walk and photographs.

9. 🦢 Kuğulu Park

This small, well-known park beside Tunalı Hilmi Street suits a short break during a city outing. Children enjoy watching the birds and sitting near the water.

It does not require a separate day: combine it with Tunalı Hilmi Street and Atakule.

10. 🏘️ Altınköy Open-Air Museum

Altınköy presents traditional rural life through wooden houses, mills, crafts and older village facilities.

It offers a different experience from an indoor museum, combining an outdoor walk with opportunities to learn about village life and traditional work.

11. 🐠 Aquariums and indoor activities

Ankara has aquariums and play centres, including facilities within shopping centres. These can be useful in winter or poor weather.

Check current prices, opening hours and age suitability before visiting.

12. 🌿 Lake Eymir

Lake Eymir is an attractive setting for walking, cycling and time outdoors. It particularly suits families with older children comfortable with longer walks.

Choose a morning visit and avoid very cold or exceptionally crowded days. Check current access arrangements before setting out.

13. 🗓️ A two-day family programme

Day one

  • Rahmi M. Koç Museum.
  • Ankara Castle and the old quarter.
  • Museum of Anatolian Civilisations.
  • A rest and a family meal in the evening.
Adapt the number of museums to the children’s ages and energy levels.

Day two

  • A science centre or the Natural History Museum in the morning.
  • Göksu Park or Harikalar Diyarı in the afternoon.
  • A shopping centre and indoor activity if the weather changes.

14. 💡 Family travel tips

  • Check museum hours before leaving.
  • Avoid combining widely separated places in one day.
  • Use rail transport where it serves your route to avoid traffic.
  • Bring warm clothes in winter.
  • Consider outdoor activities in the morning and museums later, while adapting to opening hours and weather.
  • Allow regular food and rest breaks.
  • Supervise children in large parks and beside water.
Ankara offers family activities throughout the year: museums and science centres suit colder days, while parks and lakes make relaxed outings in spring and autumn.
