🚗 Traffic Fines in Türkiye 2026: Checking, Paying and Challenging a Penalty

1) How do you check whether you have a fine?
  • Use the relevant e-Devlet enquiry service to view recorded fines and their details. The payment status may also be available through the tax authority.
  • Some banking applications offer government-payment services.
  • Keep any paper notice or official message, but do not rely on it as your only check.
Check periodically, particularly if you drive regularly or hire cars. An online record and formal service of a notice are different matters: keep the notice and establish the legally relevant service date.

2) Paying correctly
  1. Use an official payment channel, such as the Revenue Administration's Digital Tax Office or an authorised bank.
  2. Save the receipt, reference number and a PDF or screenshot.
  3. Check that the payment is subsequently recorded. Updates may take time; if the fine remains unpaid in the system, contact the collecting authority with your receipt.
The Revenue Administration explains the available payment channels and payment period in its official traffic-fine guide. Check the current notice for the amount and due date.

3) Is there a reason to challenge it?
Possible grounds include an incorrect registration number, a vehicle that does not match yours, an impossible location or time, or a material error supported by evidence. Rental-car cases may require clarification of the rental period and the person charged.
If the facts are correct and you have no contrary evidence, paying within the applicable period may be the practical choice. Compare the amount, evidence and potential consequences before deciding. A small fine can still involve a separate licence or vehicle restriction.
Payment does not by itself prevent a timely challenge to an administrative penalty: see the Revenue Administration's guidance. Do not assume that paying extends the objection deadline. The current Misdemeanours Law, Article 17(6), also confirms that payment does not affect the right to use the legal remedy.

4) Prepare your evidence
  1. The fine number, date, notice and service details.
  2. Your identity document, residence card or passport.
  3. Your driving licence and vehicle registration, where relevant.
  4. Supporting evidence: location records, receipts, lawful dashcam footage or the car-hire agreement.

5) Where should an objection go?
The correct authority and deadline depend on the decision and any accompanying measure. Check the appeal instructions on the notice promptly. Obtain legal advice if the matter involves an accident, licence suspension or vehicle impoundment. Sending an informal message to the issuing office may not count as a valid court application.

6) Rental cars: clarify any deduction
  1. Ask how the company forwards fines and whether it charges your card automatically.
  2. Request an itemised breakdown separating the fine from any contractual administration fee.
  3. Keep the handover dates: some fines reach the company after the vehicle has been returned.

7) When does it need urgent attention?
Vehicle impoundment, restrictions on sale or transfer, licence measures, an injury accident, an insurance dispute or accumulated collection action need more than a routine payment check. Establish exactly which decisions have been issued.

Message to a car-hire company
Code:
Hello,
A charge relating to a traffic fine has appeared for my rental period.
Please send the fine number, date, location and amount, any payment receipt, and an itemised explanation of any administration fee.
Thank you.

Practical takeaway
Check regularly, pay through a verified channel and retain proof. Challenge a fine through the correct procedure when you have a reason and evidence; do not let the deadline pass while seeking an informal explanation.
